Home Study=an analysis of you and your family, an overview of your lives

Semi-Open adoption RELATIONSHIP=photos, letters, communication with birthmother after placement--usually once a year

Open adoption RELATIONSHIP=photos, letters, regular communciation, visits or meets with each other and adopted child on a regular basis

Closed adoption RELATIONSHIP=no contact between adoptive couple and birthmother after placement

Finalization=the final adoption court hearing that seals, signs, and delivers your adoption into concrete

Birth Certificate=after finalization the original birth certificate is typically court sealed (no one gets to see it--including you--unless you acquire a court order) and the state will create a new and second birth certificate with the names of the adoptive couple listed as the child's parents.
