12 SIMPLE QUESTIONS
Maybe you have been on the roller coaster ride of adoption for awhile. Maybe you've been on this wild and 'not so fun' ride for not just awhile, but "forever"--or so it seems. Maybe your mental "forever" is many years or a year or 8 months or 5 months or 3 months or just a month or a few weeks or just 24 hours longer than you are want to acknowledge. Maybe you've been wringing your hands, you're tired of begging, you're sick of the wondering, despise the waiting, and disappointed at the bouts of anger you suppress. Maybe it's the fear (false evidence appearing real) that grips you at the end of a day, in the middle of the day, and/or when you wake up in the morning. At Christian Adoption, we understand the frustrations and exasperation you may feel--we've been there--we know what it's like to wait, wait, and wait some more. We have also seen a pattern in those couples that sometimes wait and wait and wait some more, because they do not have their lives and hearts in order. Consider these questions. (We are available to assist you and we will gladly pray with you.)
1. Are you and your spouse in agreement about pursuing adoption? In other words, are you both in agreement about your desires to build a family? (Don't' expect God's best if your house is divided.)
2. Do you have deep-rooted jealousy, envy, and strife in your heart towards others that have already adopted or are 'matched' before you are? Jealousy, envy, and strife are sinful attitudes. (Don't expect God's best when there are deep-rooted sins in your heart.)
3. Are you and your spouse in agreement as to how you will pursue the building of a family? Both of you have determined the avenues that you want to travel together, as well as an overall view of what kind of situation you will consider? (Don't expect God's best if there is not unity between you.)
4. Do you harbor anger towards God for your prayers not being answered in your way? Do you think that you are more capable of figuring out what's best for you than God? (Don't expect God's best, if you are angry against the Creator of life.)
5. Are you expecting to be blessed with a child for free? God is your sufficiency in all things and He will supply your need. (Don't expect God's best if you are trying to be the laborer, banker, accountant, and score keeper.)
6. Have you laid your petitions before God and asked for His hand of blessing, or are you daily demanding He produce results? (Don't expect God's best if you are dictating HIS time frame for your life.)
7. Do you expect God to drop a child into your lap and so in the meantime you will just mentally 'check out'? Do you seek God's guidance about how to actively pursue adoption, or you just figure someone else will do that for you? (Don't expect God's best, if you are mentally complacent.)
8. Have you been making "deals" with God? Making promises out of desperation, as well as begging--which is not trusting in God. (Don't expect God's best if you are trying to makes trades and bargains.)
9. Do you have health issues that need to be taken care of, and you have mentally made up timetables as to when God should answer your prayers? (Don't expect God's best if you are making up schedules.)
10. Are you willing to pray for others that need your prayers, or are you spiritually off track in service? (Don't expect God's best if you are selfishly waiting for your baby, but don't care about your brothers and sisters in Christ.)
11. Have you become so anxious and so worrisome that you can no longer receive His guidance and instruction? Do you respond to His prompting or are you waiting for neon signs? (Don't expect God's best if you will not listen and obey His still quiet voice.)
12. Have you tried to deceive others in the adoption process and secretly think you are clever? Nothing is hidden from God's view. (Don't expect God's best if you are living a lie.)
If there are areas in your life that need to be corrected--God will gladly help you overcome the obstacles that may be preventing your family building success.
For those that read this list and find themselves in harmony with God, but are still waiting--get ready--it won't be long now!
