HELP ME, I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP!
Maybe you remember that slogan.
Perhaps you feel like this in your own life--in where it really counts--in the heart of your life--in your mind.
Have you fallen in your thinking below the standard of God's Word and feel like you can't get up?
Are you quietly crying or are you shouting: HELP ME, I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP!
God can help you get up again.
Recently, our minister had an especially long season of prayer in our Sunday morning service. He suggested that we honestly examine our thoughts and measure them against God's Word for accuracy. He encouraged us to question ourselves whether the thoughts and attitudes we held were based on truth--OR--had we become so used to certain erroneous thought patterns (that we thought were righteous) that our hearts had become hardened towards others or even against God? Were we so sure of being right, that we could not see our sins? He suggested that we confess our errors to God and to acknowledge that we still have plenty of problems and room for improvement. (Go figure!) As I balanced a kicking Samuel on my lap and initially wasn't too mentally 'checked in', he kept reminding us to consider our thought patterns and to take them and our impure hearts to God for cleansing. The more he gently prodded, the more I realized that God was talking to me about some of my wrong thinking. I had gotten onto a mental track in my mind about someone in my family and was so used to thinking erroneously and felt so justified in my reasoning, that it had become normal--for me, according to my standard. I was wrong--God is always right.
Light dispels darkness, and God's Word makes manifest the darkness in our lives.
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. (Psalm 119:130)
I humbly confessed to God: HELP ME, I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP!
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin...Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence (Psalm 51:1-2, 10, 11a)
I said, Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee. (Psalm 41:4)
In the adoption process, we may develop attitudes and thought patterns that we think are 'normal', but instead they are wrong. As His children, we are to subject our thought lives to the standard of God's Word and nothing less. Whenever we discover that our thoughts do not line up with HIS thoughts, we need help.
God is willing and able to help us--any time and all the time.
God will help us to get up and to press ahead.
GOD HELPED ME, I HAD FALLEN, BUT NOW I'M UP AND WALKING WITH HIM AGAIN !
DO YOU WANT HIS HELP TODAY?
The key is believing His Word.
