WE'VE JUST GOT TO KNOW --- WELL, NO YOU DON'T!

Many of the adoptive couples that contact us ask to adopt a specific gender. They often tell us that,

"They just have to know what the sex is prior to birth, and that if the child is the wrong (?) gender, that they will not adopt that child."

These types of statements or requests demonstrate a lack of spiritual maturity. God is the author of all that is good, perfect, with virtue, and He creates life. To refuse the precious life of a child based solely on the child's gender is immature and insulting to God's goodness.

We understand that the American dream is at least 2 children, one of each gender. But as Christians are we to place more importance on what this dream is, on what we want, and what we demand; rather than trusting God for His very best?

Our experience at Christian Adoption has educated us in the accuracy of sonogram gender detection. THEY ARE NOT ACCURATE A LOT OF THE TIME. How many stories we could share of mid-term sonograms, sonograms done hours prior to delivery, and late-term sonograms that were so certain, but absolutely wrong.

Rather than focusing on the gender of an unborn child, why not pray and focus on being blessed with a healthy child with God's hand of blessing?

Rather than trying to fulfill the American dream, why not ask God to fill your heart and lives with His best?

Rather than trying to figure it all out and get head strong about it, why not trust in God and humble yourself before Him.

God is really big, really really big! He knows you better than you know yourself. Don't believe me? Well, how many hairs do you have on your head? He knows. How are you going to manufacture the air you need for your next breath? He's doing it for you. How high are your ways? His ways are higher than yours.

As we rely upon God's ability to bless us Ephesians 3:20 style:

Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

we will be blessed in inexplicably ways. Blessings that are beyond measure and are His best for our families and us.

Do not allow the ways of the world, the desires of the flesh, and the pride of man to short change you. You can expect God's best when you are willing to trust in Him fully.

RE: "We've just got to know" --- Well, no you don't!

I loved this one Deborah (and your recent one about being in the eye of the storm too-it was very powerful and I sent it on to some friends of mine). As we have been persuing a second adoption, I have had soooo many people ask me: "Are you going to adopt a girl this time?" My response is always polite but something like: "We don't know yet, God decides that." or I respond with "When you have a biological baby, you don't determine the sex ahead of time, so I don't feel we should try to dictate that ahead of time when its in God's hands as to which child we are blessed with." So, good for you for speaking the truth in love.

Even now that we are getting very close to having our second child through adoption, and we don't know the sex of the baby, it's exciting not to know! But it seems to be driving some other people around us crazy. It's one of the most common questions we are asked: "Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?" or "When will you find out?" I 'm glad that we place our confidence in God's Higher ways, than our finite ideas.
