GOD WILL OPEN THE DOORS, AS WE TRUST IN HIM
For Nathan and Shirley, God opened one door that led to a better door!
We rejoiced with Nathan and Shirley when they listed with us and again when they were quickly matched. Already having children of their own, I was impressed with their inspired desire to adopt. To adopt an infant of any racial combination and almost any circumstance. "This is a remarkable couple," I thought.
GOD WILL OPEN THE DOORS, AS WE TRUST IN HIM
Ruth was their birthmother match located in Lancaster and Shirley fell in love with this young lady quickly. She made a special trip to go to PA to be with Ruth for her first sonogram. They kept in touch, and it was a lovely relationship. Ruth was due mid-November. Right on cue, she called Shirley when she went into labor. An all-night trip and flight from AZ to PA brought Shirley that much closer to holding her new baby. However, instead of continuing to dilate for delivery, Ruth's labor stopped and dilation reversed! How often does that happen? Shirley kept us posted, as she knew we were anticipating her announcement. When she called with an update on delivery, we were equally puzzled. What was causing this unusual delivery situation?
GOD WILL OPEN THE DOORS, AS WE TRUST IN HIM
Well, there was Shirley in PA, far away from her husband and children, back in AZ. She was living at a motel and at the hospital. After four days, she began to demand to see some of the medical records and dig for some answers. The agency she was working with was handling all the details, but they were not double-checking the files, the medical reports and updates, against what the birthmother was telling them. Shirley disappointedly found out that Ruth had been lying to all involved. She was not due until late December, and had been drug tested positive--it was all in the medical records. Her premature labor was induced by having just done some crack or cocaine and she had been taking drugs throughout her pregnancy. Nathan flew to PA to join Shirley, and they found themselves sorting through the situation together. Hurt and dumbfounded they began asking themselves questions: How did we get in this situation? Why the lies? Why didn't the agency double check? Why didn't we demand to see records? Why did we believe this girl?, How could she lie to us? We care about her, we've adopted her, we've prayed for this baby, we love this unborn baby--what is going on???
GOD WILL OPEN THE DOORS, AS WE TRUST IN HIM
With God working within them and one particular caseworker at the agency--God did His thing to bless their lives. With their confidence shattered in the match with Ruth and with despair they returned to their motel, to get ready to leave PA. Disappointed, despaired, and discouraged, they sat in their rented car in the parking lot. Then, God at work as only He can work such a work, inspired them to return to the agency to see Cassie--RIGHT NOW! Off to the agency they went, with a new hope in their heart, but still puzzled.
GOD WILL OPEN THE DOORS, AS WE TRUST IN HIM
They arrived at the agency, walked up to Cassis's desk, and she was on the phone with another birthmother, Christy. Christy lived in New Oxford, had just called in, was due within the month, was looking for a couple to adopt her baby---and have you figured it out yet?---Nathan and Shirley speak with her over the phone, and a "match" is made! Right then, right there, in a matter of moments, God has opened another door for them, and they are delighted with their new birthmother.
GOD WILL OPEN THE DOORS, AS WE TRUST IN HIM
Nathan and Shirley fly back to AZ and begin a new relationship with a new birthmother. When I had sent out a request for others to pray for Nathan and Shirley, they had just returned from PA, were still sorting through some emotions, and allowing themselves some time to grieve over the baby they had lost. Shirley, with the love of God in her heart, was also busy trying to find another couple for Ruth's baby. She needed to know her once prayed for unborn would be placed in a wonderful home. Well, there again is God at work--that is love, His love.
GOD WILL OPEN THE DOORS, AS WE TRUST IN HIM
About two weeks later, I sent out a request asking for prayers for birthmothers, and Christy was on that list. Little did I know that the day I sent out the prayer request, Christy was delivering her baby. Nathan and Shirley were contacted after the baby was born, and papers signed. Within 24 hours they were back in PA, holding their new baby girl. You see, in all of the turmoil and disappointment, Nathan and Shirley had not given up trusting in God. Their hearts were fixed, trusting in the Lord. They had thought they knew exactly what they wanted, what doors had been opened, and what the final outcome was going to be. However, our great God had a better way, a better idea, and a bigger blessing in store for them! So, now they delight in the door that led to a better door with love that no words can define. Now, they are the happy and proud parents of a beautiful bouncing baby girl named Isabella!
GOD WILL OPEN THE DOORS, AS WE TRUST IN HIM
(Ruth delivered her baby, the baby girl was early, but healthy. God answered another prayer for Shirley--the baby was placed with a connection that Shirley had made on the Internet for Ruth's baby!)
