PENNY: A BIRTHMOTHER'S GRANDMOTHER SHARES HER HEART
Dear Heather and Tom,
It's Monday, November 15, 1999 and I'll be meeting you on Tuesday, November 16, 1999, (hopefully on the date of the baby's birth). Sandy told me the name you have chosen for the baby, and it means the "chosen one." Very appropriate. This morning I am trying to get all of my crying done, so I can be strong tomorrow for Krissy and Sandy.
I'm your soon-to-be son's 63-year old great grandmother. God blessed our home with four beautiful and wonderful daughters, whom we love very much. I have loved being a mother and we introduced our children to Christ and His church at a very early age.
Let me share with you this fact--we love this little boy even before he is born and want to give him a chance in life, and also allow you both to love him and bring him up in a stable, Christian home. Some might say we are "giving" him away. That is not true. I know that this is an ultimate gift of love and I become very sad when I realize I won't have any "grandmotherly" influence in his life. I only hope that one day we will be able to be a part of his life. But in the meantime, we will be praying for all of you and will be thinking and hoping and wondering about him. I don't know the rules, but if maybe you and I could keep in touch it would be so good. What really made an impression on us from your profile was: you thanked Krissy for choosing life. (There could be no other choice.) You said God did not make a mistake. That you were "unashamedly Christian." And that you would do everything in your power to raise him to be the best that he can be - as God's child. God bless you and we'll be praying for you.
Love,
Penny
