TWO SIDES TO A COIN & TWO VIEWPOINTS IN ADOPTION

Generally everyone considers a situation from his or her viewpoint only. But in the adoption process, both the birth parent's viewpoint and the adoptive couple's viewpoint should be considered. The following outline offers a comparison of these viewpoints.

Birth Parent/Adoptive Couple

*Fear of rejection/Fear of acceptance

*Possible sense of shame/Presence of pain of failed attempts to become parents

*Who are these people?/Who are these people?

*Unplanned pregnancy/Unplanned choice for parenthood

*We know we're pregnant/We hope we adopt

*Need to find the ideal couple/Need to be found

*Can we trust these people?/Can we trust these people?

*We have never placed a child/We have never adopted a child

*We're afraid of making the wrong decision/We're afraid of making the wrong decision

*Wish we were not in this position/Wish we were not in this position

*Our parents were this way and taught us…/Our parents were this way and taught us this…

*Our past experiences influence our thinking/Our past experiences influence our thinking

*We have to be sure/We pray that they are sure

*We've never been through adoption/We've never been through adoption

*Our age affects our perspective/Our age affects our perspective

*Our pastor shared with us.../Our pastor shared with us...

Each party involved in the adoption process is part of the same coin, even though the perspectives and perceptions may be similar--yet different. At Christian Adoption, our hope and prayer is that God is glorified by the placements associated with our service. Which means that everyone in the adoption process chooses to consider each other's viewpoint and walks in Christian love towards each other. This requires a spiritual mentality and a willingness to 'help' each other through the placement process.

It is spiritually immature to consider one's own perspective and to make commitments that will not be kept. Many of the Christian couples that we represent have already been deeply hurt/burned by birth parents/agencies/attorneys and others in the adoption field. Therefore, it's a true blessing and a breath of fresh air when birth parents choose to walk in love and consider the challenges that many adoptive couples have unjustly had to experience. Equally important are the needs and expectations of the birth parent's hopes and prayers for their child. Everyone involved in a God-centered placement will walk in love and respect one another.

Christian Adoption provides a 24-hour toll free number to assist birth parents in their search for the best Christian couple for their child. We can help birth parents locate a counselor or a pastor in their area for additional assistance. We can suggest birthmother-housing options as well as offer attorney assistance. We are willingly able to pray with birth parents and for their unborn child.

Christian Adoption is a service ministry, which means we serve God first and minister His love and grace to others. We are mindful of varying viewpoints, the two sides to the same adoption coin.

Let us know how we may minister His love to you!
