FREEDOM TO SUBMIT

Free at last, free at last. Praise God Almighty, we are free at last…Martin Luther King

The only true and real freedom that anyone can experience, is the freedom that is found in Christ Jesus.

There is freedom in submitting ourselves to God. That may sound like an oxymoron, but the more we discipline and submit our lives to the will of God, which is clearly stated in His Word, the greater we will experience true freedom.

One of God's greatest gifts to mankind is freedom of will. (Don't you decide with your own freedom of will what you will eat each day? What you will wear? What you will do with your time and your thought life?)

We have freedom of will to obey God's Word or to disobey. We make the choice; we have the free will decision to choose.

We have the God-given right to use our freedom of will to live in sin or to be obedient unto righteousness.

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?  Romans 6:16

Our liberty in Christ is not to be used as an occasion to the flesh.

For brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by the love serve one another.  Galatians 5:13

To trust in God with all your heart is to lean not unto your own understanding.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding.  Proverbs 3:5

Only the truth of God's Word will set a person free.

And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.  John 8:32

Only in discipline is true freedom found.

Our Lord Jesus Christ also had this freedom of will. He chose to use his freedom of will to obey His Father. Even though he was tempted in all ways, he was yet without sin.

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.  Hebrews 4:15

Prison bars and prison walls cannot stop our freedom in Christ. Words and accusations cannot stop our freedom in Christ. Governments and worldly powers cannot stop our freedom in Christ. Spiritual powers and rulers of darkness cannot stop our freedom in Christ.

Each man and woman must decide for themselves how they will use their freedom of will--as an occasion to serve the lusts of the flesh or in loving submission to obey God and His commandments.

God is able, God is willing, and God is ready to forgive the deeds of the flesh and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

In His forgiveness and in His cleansing is true freedom found.
