LIKE A MOTHER BEAR

I had no idea that I would feel this way.
I've never been in this position before.
I had no idea that I would become so protective.
I've never experienced this sense of loyalty to a stranger.
But I do. And I am. And I have changed. And I am committed in my heart--like a MOTHER BEAR towards her cub--but not with my cub--with my birthmother.
DON'T TOUCH MY BIRTHMOM--IN ANY WAY! NOT WITH A DEROGATORY COMMENT, AN INNUENDO OR EVEN A HINT OF CRITICISM.
With our first adoption, we had already been scammed and burned by 2 different birthmoms. We were still healing from the devastation when we received the phone call about our Danielle. Since she was placed into our arms within 24 hours of that phone call. And since she was in such terrible physical, mental, and emotional condition when we received her. And since our birthparents then fought us tooth and nail to take her away from us--we haven't had a positive opinion of birthmoms. All of our experiences had been negative and we no doubt had become jaded in our hearts about "birthmothers."
With our second adoption, we'd had time to heal from the pain of past experiences and entered our birthmother relationship with fresh perspectives. Not only new perspectives, but with Biblically accurate perspectives (at least we were trying).
No matter what our birthmother has done in the past or plans to do in the future--with or without our involvement in our lives--SHE IS BLESSING US WITH A GIFT BEYOND A PRICE, BEYOND A VALUE, BEYOND OUR ABILITY, AND BEYOND OUR WORTHINESS TO RECEIVE. To think that another woman would grace us or anyone else with the precious gift of her child that is a part of her--cannot be expressed in appropriate words of appreciation. We understand that our full allegiance belongs to God, but how truly and completely thankful we are to be given the gift of a baby to call our very own.
We have a grand sense of loyalty to our birthmother and a desire to protect her and care for her--as our very own--because she is our very own--our very own birthmom.
I never understood this before, I had no life experience, and I could not appreciate the intensity of this relationship before now. I pray that we will be more able, more equipped, and more ready to help more birthmoms and their 'chosen' adoptive couple in the adoption process.
We're learning, we're growing, and we give God the glory.
But do remember:
DON'T TOUCH MY BIRTHMOM--IN ANY WAY! NOT WITH A DEROGATORY COMMENT, AN INNUENDO OR EVEN A HINT OF CRITICISM.
