SOLDIER X

by Don Wulffson

As I teach my adopted children about history, I think it's important to include different perspectives about life changing events. Soldier X is written by a German Jugend, Hitler Youth, who was indoctrinated by their code: "You are nothing--your Volk are everything. You were born to die for Germany." Upon those precepts this Nazi Youth fought on the Eastern Front against the Russians. However, he found himself trading places and uniforms with a dead Russian Youth in order to save his own life. Mr. Wulffson, who is 1/2 German & 1/2 Russian, spoke both languages fluently and could easily masquerade as either. He offers an interesting perspective about the relevancy to national heritage and patriotism. This book details his real life experiences during and post WW II. I read his book in a couple days because it was so engrossing.
