PHOTO HELPS

(We have chosen to use ourselves and some of our "good & bad" photographs, as examples of what TO send & what NOT to send for your profile letter.)

When sending your 6 photos (one for the main profile letter and 5 additional pictures) please send more rather than less because some photos scan better than others. Please send clean, clear, and sharp focus pictures of family, friends, pets, yourself/yourselves. Anyone viewing your profile and pictures wants to see faces, eyes, mouths and smiles--so please send us pictures with real people and real faces! Your pictures tell a story about you. (Look at the camera and open your eyes!) Please send whole uncut photos (cut photo edges look ragged when scanned--oh, and no scotch tape-please!). This also applies to any type of graphic, drawing or picture you may treasure that is not a photo, but communicates your heart more fully. We will coordinate with you on the placement of such items. We have added Sample Photos to help you with the picture selection process. Additionally, good pictures are those that offer color contrasts. Wearing colors of clothes that are complimentary to your complexion while standing or sitting in front of a contrasting color provides the information for a camera to take a great shot. What you initially think will be a good picture, often is not when scanned. Sitting or standing in front of a white background with white clothing or in bright sunlight does not allow us to pull you off the wall when scanned. The same is true with a dark background and dark hair, dark clothing or wearing the same colors as another person in the photo. Taking pictures with a flash in front of mirrors, windows, or too much flash results in a washout of faces and bad light reflection in the background. The closer you are to the camera, the better it will scan and will provide us with optimal information for manipulating your picture. People that are too far away from the camera appear as faceless images when scanned. If God is leading you to list with us, please take His direction seriously and do your homework. Remember you are pursuing the adoption of a child, so taking the time to take pictures for your profile letter is not a waste of time--it is an investment. Organizing, setting up, taking, and sending us "good" photographs is a part of your adoption process.  The effort you put into your profile letter will also be a wonderful part of your adoption story to share with your adopted child, as he or she grows up!
