THE WORLD AROUND US
Written by Deborah.
9.26.05
We live in this world, but are not of this world—there’s a huge difference between “in” and “of”. There’s also a big difference between AFFECT and EFFECT.
The circumstances that surround us may cause an effect in our lives, but since we can be God’s Word conditioned (not situation oriented), the circumstances around us need not affect our minds. Affect deals with our mind and how its affected or influenced. Effect defines what happens around us and how it effects changes.
The storms of life may come and cause an effect on our homes, our economy, our communities and our nation. But the storms of life need not affect our minds—for we have decided to take a stand upon God’s promises—and they never change.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God. That ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all , taking the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:10-17
Prices may soar, but God remains our sufficiency in all things.
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work. II Corinthians 9:8
The walls of a structure may be altered, but we stand with our lives built on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. I Corinthians 10:4
An epidemic may sweep through a community, but through his stripes we were healed.
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. I Peter 2:24
The strength of a family may be challenged, but in Him we are strong.
He (Abraham) staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God. Romans 4:20
Fear of destitution may bombard our minds, but His grace abounds.
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work. II Corinthians 9:8
The lies of the world may tempt us to disobey, but in Him we are more than conquerors.
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loves us. Romans 8:37
Whatever the situation, circumstance and/or challenge, we can resist being be affected.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1
As Christians, we can choose God’s Word to affect our minds. We can seek His wisdom to make decisions that will effect a change in others.
Our nation in the past few weeks has been “rocked” by Hurricane Katrina. Everyone in our country has been effected in some way or another. We will bounce back individually and collectively as we continue to choose God’s Word, which is a sure word, to permeate our minds.
Birthmothers, who may not know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, have been affected and effected. Let us as His people, pray for birthmoms that may be floundering mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
In 2001, it took several months before our nation began to rally back. Adoptions were directly effected because birthmothers were in ‘freeze frame’ mode.
May we rise up to the task at hand, interceding for one another and for the children of the future, by obeying God’s Word.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16b
