SONG OF THE BROOK

I watched a happy little brook,

Gliding gently on its way;

Soft, enchanting, lovely music,

It so sweetly seemed to play.

Then I noticed as I watched it,

That the song it sweetly sings;

Comes from only rocks and pebbles

As the water o'er them swings.

And I thought in love and wonder,

How the sweetest songs we sing;

Come from sorrows, trials, and heartaches,

Which this life does seem to bring.

I bowed my head in meek submission

In that quiet, shady nook;

And I prayed, "Dear Lord, I thank Thee,

For the lesson of the brook."
