JUST BECAUSE...

It was October 1, 2003, with some dew still on the ground and I was looking at the seemingly impossible. I was staring in amazement and disbelief, straight up into the sky, or at least that's how it appeared. But I was looking at "something" and my mind was grappling with the impossible.
"Whatcha lookin' at honey?"
"I'm looking at the impossible. The utterly impossible and if I didn't see this myself, I don't know if I'd believe it to be true."
As my husband approached me, "Are you looking at something in the sky? What's impossible?"
My quiet, almost hushed response was, "What you are about to look at is not possible. This is the impossible and only God could do this."
"What? What's impossible?"
"When do the cherry trees bloom in the spring? What month?" I asked.
"That's your department, but I think in May, isn't it?"
"Well, the buds set on the trees in April and bloom in late April/early May." My husband was trying to connect the dots, but I was unfolding a drama with my queries. Now the time for the punch line…
"Okay, Eddie…get this. The trees bud in April and bloom in late April/early May. Then as the cherries grow, the flowers fall off, for the center of the flower becomes the cherry. Last May, do you remember Danielle and I out here almost every day picking cherries? Remember how she ate just about every cherry we picked before I got them into the house?"
"Yes, I remember."
Well, check this out…look at these perfect cherry blossoms still on the tip of this branch--in full bloom! How can that happen? It's October 1, and these blossoms have hung on here for over 5 months! That's not possible. Why didn't Danny and I see them in May when we were out here picking cherries? How did these blooms survive during the August heat? Where in the world have you ever heard of cherry blossoms remaining in perfect condition completely through their season, through another season (summer) and into a third season (fall)? It's just not possible! See those webs, those bag worm webs? Well, I think the bag worms surrounded these blossoms and protected them, even provided a kind of buffer around them all these months. Can you believe it? Those annoying "black walnut leave eating bag worms" that we keep trying to get rid of, saved these gorgeous white cherry blossoms! How cool is that? That's God, that is an impossible thing we're looking at--and only God could do it."
Eddie, trying to get into the wonder of it all, "That's really neat hon. Wow, that's amazing. Have you put the feed in the buckets yet?"
"Yeah, been there/done that."
Only God! Only God could do such a wonder!
Everyday, for over 5 months, I've walked right by this cherry tree to open a gate and never saw this miracle. Everyday, for over 5 months, I've passed by God's impossibility and never saw it. But today, I looked up and today I saw the absolute impossible. Why did God do such a thing? What's the reason? What's the point?
Just because...
Because God is in the business of doing the impossible and He doesn't have to have a good reason for it.
He can do the seemingly impossible for His children…just because!
Because He is God and He can. Because He loves us and is tickled to bless us with the impossible. Because He is blessed to surprise us with wonders. Did I do anything on earth to deserve this awesome sight? Did I pray for this to happen? Did I ever even think, in my wildest imagination to see this come to pass?
No, but just because God is who HE is…it happened.
Because God knows how to bless us, inspire us, how to remind us of His greatness. Because God knows how to give us a gentle nudge in our minds and hearts to continue to trust in Him and to believe in Him.
Because God is God and He is the creator of the universe.
God can do and He will do signs, miracles and wonders for us His children.
Just because...
