FLASH LIGHT

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. John 3:18-21

Do we seek to understand God’s Word through prayer and meditation? Do we try to improve our communion with Him? Are we praying for His clear guidance for our lives? Are we tapping into His power to carry out His leading? After our 4th miscarriage (Spring ’03) our Dr. recommended we set 2 mos. aside to consider our options. 1) Try again 2) Permanent sterilization for Brian 3) Adoption. As we exited her office door confused/distraught, she said: "You have a 60% chance for a successful pregnancy." We cried, we prayed and we asked God to shine a “flashlight” on our path. We clearly saw His light shine on adoption. We were excited and thankful that God was preparing us for another baby to come to us a whole new way. I contacted all the Christian AdoptionCA references and we prayed about the CATEGORIES. Brian and I looked over all the categories and agreed to consider: infant, twins, Caucasian, Hispanic and Bi-racial babies. (I think when we came on-line w/CA in late June ’03, there were 26 of us. I can't even define how many hours I’ve poured over the web site. I’ve developed some close personal friendships w/other CA’ers-which has been great. The beauty of the body in CA is how we can network w/each other as much as we want to!) I began having phone conversation w/an adoptive mom of 3 AA babies (not in CA) and my mind and heart began to change. My primary question was, “What prompted you as 2 C people to become so open to different races? Is it because you live in the city/in a racially diverse community?” She answered w/such love and compassion towards me, answering all my questions—helping me to overcome my doubts. I could hear in her voice how excited she was that God had been faithful to bring these miracles into their lives. God was the one that lit the path for them to see clearly. She reminded me of God’s love and truth—that God is color blind and that we needed to be open to wherever He was leading us. Wow! What a concept! Time for more education, more bedtime reading and a whole new direction to pray for and about. I was geared up/ready to put the pedal to the metal! But Brian put on the emergency brakes: "How is an AA  adopted child going to make it in our 1,200 population NON-diverse community? I want all of our children to have equal opportunities. Will he/she be made fun of? What will your grandpa say at the family gatherings? What will my mom say?" All valid concerns, but we are commanded to not be ruled by our circumstances, our fears of the unknown or our seemingly valid ideas. I got on my knees for Brian and w/in a wk he was convicted/ready to be open to all races. We got educated and readied ourselves for a new path with The Bright Light leading the way. Sometimes we don't want to know God's will because there are areas in our lives that we aren't ready to face and overcome. We may be ready to pray for God's will in some area, but feel uncomfortable having God's light shine into our hidden heart recesses. We asked God to forgive us for any and all prejudice we felt directly or indirectly due to family, friends, our community, and our own misconceptions. Our oldest daughter, Claire, had been praying for her brown baby brother or sister to arrive soon—and God answered her and our prayers w/our AA son, Eli! We encourage you to prayerfully consider if you’re in all the right categories—the ones God has lit up for you. Currently there are 26 in Newborn, 3 in AA, 16 in Hispanic, 4 in AA/ Caucasian, 7 in Multi-racial, 13 in Asian. I hope you’ll check your hearts and pray for God’s direction. Then get ready for the most amazing blessings God has in store for your Christian family. Eli is 6.5 m/o and EVERYONE flocks to him! Even w/other newborns all around—the child is like a people magnet! He has changed our family structure for the better. God is working through this baby to bring others to Him! My Grandfather who was in WWII loves him like he’s our own blood relative, same w/my German grandma and our whole family. This precious AA baby boy has opened up our community to the innocence of people—we all start out the same—just in different packaging! We continue to be in prayer for the Christian AdoptionCA Family!
